Jo Leung

Multi-disciplinary Artist

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jo Leung is a multi-discipline dance artist who began her creative career with graphic design, costume design, videography, dance education and dance choreography in Hong Kong. Leung received her Diploma in Design (Visual Communication), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Dance, from Lee Wai Lee Technical Institute in 1996 and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2004 respectively. In 2008, Leung was awarded a scholarship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund to support her to pursue her Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Hollins University/ADF.
Leung’s choreography has been presented widely at different venues in Hong Kong, WUK in Vienna, CCN-Ballet de Lorraine in France and the American Dance Festival. She completed her Master’s Degree in August, 2010, and is now based in Hong Kong. Her latest co-choreographic work with Pewan Chow – Dialogue was commissioned by Leisure Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and presented in December 2011. Her later work re: rewind the reverse was selected by The Hong Kong Arts Festival as submission in 2013. In 2015, Leung was commissioned by LCSD again and presented her full-length creation 37ºC in New Force In Motion Series.­
As a teacher of Contemporary Dance, Dance Improvisation and Yoga in different forms, Leung’s teaching journey can be traced back in 2002. Her experienced teaching has been shared with a wide range of students in different age group, from 3 to 60. Leung’s teaching footprints can be found in different places in Hong Kong, including primary schools, secondary schools, HKAPA, 7th – 10th Arts Ambassadors-in-School Scheme, City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) Dance Centre and private studios such as Aerial Dance Academy, Studiodanz, Love Dance Studio, YMCA, FAC, Fight Hard and VO2 Fitness.
With her design background, Leung started to explore her design talent alongside her creative work in dance as well as other choreographers and dance organizations.
Since 2012 and the follow eight years, as a costume designer, Leung was invited by CCDC Dance Centre, to design costume for the student showcase of Dancing in The Sun and Wu Dao Qing Nian 2013 and 2017. Other recent work including Passoverdance’s Maze, Maze 2.0, Tenacity Of Being, 10gather, Elaine Kwok’s Solo, Rebecca Wong’s When Time Limps, Carry On, her dance creation 37ºC, Flora Hon and Kelvin Lam’s Puzzle and Chloe Wong’s Light Flight the Night Light, etc.
Leung’s recent work of graphic design including Passoverdance’s Site Specific Series – Arts in Fragments - Room, Light, Fabric and Shape, Walkalong, Rebecca Wong’s When Time Limps, Carry On, etc.
