Independent Dance Artist

Rex Cheng graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a bachelor degree majoring in Chinese Dance and he joined DanceArt HK as full time dancer after graduation. Currently, he works as a part-time teacher in HKAPA, freelance dance artist, Tai Chi, Yoga & Pilates tutor.
He started to learn Tai Chi & Choy Li Fut since the age of 10, and he has been awarded with First Runner Up in Traditional Wushu (Choy Li Fut) in 2004 and Gold Metal in Traditional Tai Chi in 2016 by Hong Kong Wushu Union. He also acquired the certificate of Chinese WuShu Duan Wei System - Level 2.
He has been performing in a lot of local and overseas dance & musical performances, and his recent performances include Human Internship by Justyne Li for HK Dance Alliance Springboard Showcase 2016 programme and The Rite of Spring by Dick Wong for Zuni Icosahedron.
During past years, he presented his choreography works including No.36, To Tear Up, To Gear Down, Bingo?!, On/Off? for City Contemporary Dance Company Dance Centre Real Showcase 2016 programme, The Butcher sponsored by Hong Kong Arts Development Council Emerging Artist programme, Solitary by Leisure and Cultural Services Department New Force in Motion series, La Double Vie and Enlightenment from Hong Kong Arts Festival Contemporary Dance Series, and The Key (co-choreography with Kaohsiung Wei Dance Company), etc. And his choreographic work Solitary was awarded for Outstanding Small Venue Production in 2018 Hong Kong Dance Awards.
Besides, Rex actively involves in cultural arts exchange programmes, and conducted master class in World Dance Alliance Global Summit in Canada and contemporary Chinese Dance workshop for Scottish Ballet, be part of the visiting artists in PAMS (Performance Arts Market - Seoul) sponsored by Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
